CAMBRIDGE – Dynamo Gymnastics Sports Centre gymnasts are already setting an award-winning pace after kicking off the competitive season last weekend (Nov. 14-16) by taking top honours at a Tour Ontario Selection and National Elite Screening meet in Etobicoke.
Four Cambridge gymnasts – including Brooklyn Moors, Audrey Lee, Cassie Emery and Emma Spence – rocked the competition, bringing home nine medals, including four gold, two silver and three bronze.
Aside from the gymnasts hitting all their routines, with no falls throughout the meet, highlights included Spence qualifying to compete in the national stream and Moors qualifying for a spot on Team Ontario’s squad that will head to international competition in Las Vegas in January.
Last weekend’s meet started Friday night, with Moors and Lee competing in the level 9, age 13 and up category. Moors hit all four routines, winning first place overall in the division, as well as taking gold on vault, silver on floor and fifth on beam and bars. Moors will lead the division’s Team Ontario squad when it heads to the Lady Luck competition in Las Vegas.
Lee, also hit four-for-four in Friday’s meet, placing 21st all-around, 15th on vault, 26th on bars, ninth on beam and 18th on floor.
The success continued Saturday as Emery, competing in the level 7, age 13 and up category, took the gold medal for beam with a score of 9.8 out of 10. In the all-around competition, Emery placed 37th overall, 20th on vault, 38th on bars and 12th on floor.
Capping off the weekend, Spence rocked the meet, competing in her first national novice competition, gave solid performances to win silver overall, gold on floor, silver on beam as well as bronze on vault and bars. Spence’s results more than qualified the Dynamo gymnast to compete in the national division, including the upcoming Elite Canada meet.
