Program Manager, Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG)

Gymnastics Canada (GCG) is the national sport governing body responsible for the governance, development, and promotion of Gymnastics in Canada. Gymnastics Canada works closely with the twelve (12) Provincial Federations and over 700 clubs to provide a broad range of programs and services to meet the needs of all participants. From athlete development to coaching and judging education, Gymnastics Canada sets the operation standards and practices for the sport in Canada. Our mandate is to promote and provide positive and diverse gymnastics experience through the delivery of quality and safe gymnastics programing.

Located in Ottawa, and reporting to the GCG High Performance Director (HPD), the Program Manager, Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the MAG program within the scope of the GCG strategic and operational plans. The Program Manager, MAG will work and make decisions in consultation with the GCG HPD, MAG National Team Director (NTD), and the MAG Program Committees and Assemblies.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning

 

  • In partnership with the HPD and the MAG NTD, develop the overall direction and multi-year plans for the MAG program in accordance with GCG strategic priorities and operational framework.

 

Program Development, Management, and Evaluation

 

  • In partnership with the HPD and MAG NTD, develop and implement an efficient national delivery structure and system for the MAG program.
  • Perform annual program and service evaluations to ensure the needs and expectations of program members and stakeholders are met.
  • Supervise and evaluate the support staff of the assigned program.
  • Ensure recruitment, development, supervision, and recognition of volunteer members for the assigned program committees, councils, groups, and other GCG committees.

 

Governance

 

  • Develop, propose, implement, and ensure adherence to the MAG technical regulations.
  • Adopt, implement, and ensure adherence to standards, processes, practices, protocols, procedures, and other regulations.
  • Convene and chair the Program Committees and sub-committees (as required);
  • Develop and propose terms of reference for sub-committees within the framework of the GCG technical structure.
  • Ensure nominations to other GCG committees as required.
  • Ensure maintenance of assigned program files, records, results, minutes, etc.

 

Budget Management

 

  • In partnership with the HPD and MAG NTD, develop and manage the overall budget for the assigned program.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly program financial records and updates to the HPD.

 

Communication

 

  • Ensure consistent, timely, and effective communication and consultation with all stakeholders and partners in the program.
  • Provide quarterly reports to the HPD for senior management reports to the Board of Directors.

 

Event Technical Management and Liaison

 

  • Ensure, in consultation with the GCG Director of Events, that the technical requirements are in place for all assigned program competitions.
  • Set, in consultation with the GCG Director of Events, competitive programs and schedules for all assigned program competitions.
  • Provide technical oversite for all GCG domestic and international competitions.

 

Domestic and International Representation

 

  • In partnership with the HPD and MAG NTD, liaise with multi-sport service organizations such as Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, and Own the Podium.
  • In partnership with the HPD and MAG NTD, liaise with other national gymnastics federations and international gymnastics governing bodies for the MAG program.
  • Assist the HPD with international relations, within the context of GCG international relation strategies.
  • Work with the provincial/territorial sport offices (PTSOs) to aid in the ongoing alignment of national and provincial/territorial initiatives as suits the objectives of GCG.

 

Judging

 

  • Ensure the development and implementation of an effective national education/certification program and evaluation system for MAG program judges.
  • Oversee judge selections and assignments for domestic and international competitions.
  • Liaise with the PTSOs toward the development of an integrated and aligned judging education system across Canada for the MAG program.

 

Coaching

 

  • In partnership with the HPD and Program Manager – Education, ensure the development and implementation of programs aimed at developing coaches for the MAG program.

 

Athletes

 

  • In partnership with program staff, provide direction to ensure the development and implementation of programs aimed at developing athletes for the MAG program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

 

  • A university/college degree in sport management/physical education or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience in and knowledge of sports (preferably gymnastics) at the domestic and international levels.
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian sport system.
  • Several years of experience in a key management position in sport.
  • The ability to plan, oversee, and evaluate sport development systems.
  • Excellent organizational, management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with leaders, coaches, and athletes in a high performance environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate in both of Canada’s official languages is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and with volunteers.
  • Up-to-date experience and expertise within artistic gymnastics is an asset.
