Led by Canadian junior champion Rose-Kaying Woo of La Prairie, Que., the Canadian team scored a total of 166.750 points, while the Russian squad earned the silver medal with 162.800 points and Italy took the bronze with 159.350.
Other members of the team were Shallon Olsen of Coquitlam, B.C., Ana Padurariu of Whitby, Ont., and Megan Roberts of Toronto.
Padurariu, the 2014 Canadian novice champion, moved up to compete for the first time as a junior and came through with an impressive overall performance, including a new move on the uneven bars with a high degree of difficulty.
“I’ve added a new release skill and I hope it’s going to be named after me because no one has done it yet and I’m very excited,” said Padurariu.
A second Canadian team consisting of Victoria Jurca of Montreal, Jade Chrobok of Toronto, Haley De Jong of Vancouver and Enya Pouliot of Bedford, N.S., placed fourth.
In the individual all around event, Woo added another gold medal to go with the one she scored in the team competition.
Natalia Kapitonova of Russia won the silver and Canada’s Chrobok took the bronze.
