Eveyln is the Director of Kalev Estienne School of Rhythmic Gymnastics and has been involved in the world of gymnastics for more than 60 years.
In 1968 she approached the provincial and federal governments requesting the formation of a federation through which rhythmic gymnastics could be promoted. In 1969 the Ontario Modern Gymnastics Federation was registered with Evelyn as President. 1969 was the first year that the sport received government funding.
In 1976 Evelyn worked hand in hand with Juri Titov, President of FIG and others to have rhythmic gymnastics recognized as an Olympic sport and in 1977 she authored a book, published as “The Basics of Modern Rhythmic Gymnastics”.
In 1985 Evelyn was presented with the Governor General’s Award. In 1999 after receiving her 20 year service pin from FIG, her efforts for promoting rhythmic gymnastics was recognized in Canada by being nominated for the Women on the Move Award.
In 1991 the first Koop Cup was presented as a biannual event and in 2024 Koop Cup is celebrating three decades of success.
Evelyn extends her reach into the community, engaging in impactful programs at the Markham Community Centre, the Chinese Community Centre and many other different events organized by cities around the region. Through these initiatives Evelyn has spread the word of love for gymnastics among diverse audiences.
Evelyn’s success and promotion of rhythmic gymnastics has been endless. She is renowned in the sport, both nationally and internationally.
Ultimately, Evelyn Koop is more than just a director; she is a catalyst for the advancement and vitality of rhythmic gymnastics, blending sportsmanship, community involvement and empowerment into the core of her initiatives.
