Mariya Kovtun is a graduate of the Regional Children – Youth School of Olympic Reserve in Ukraine with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master of Sport in Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Mariya is a Level 2 NCCP coach and a Level 3 national judge. Her coaching resume highlights extensive international experience training rhythmic gymnasts that have excelled on the national and world stage.
In 2009, Mariya quickly solidified her coaching role with Canada’s National Group for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, 2015 Team Ontario Coach for a team in Luxembourg, 2015 and 2016 Grand Prix, 2015 and 2016 Club World Championships and the 2016 Pan Am Championships.
She is well regarded in the rhythmic gymnastics discipline for her training, coaching and choreography skills. Her knowledge of the apparatus and ability to breakdown and connect difficult skills have played a critical role in producing some of Ontario’s and Canada’s best rhythmic gymnasts.
Mariya genuinely cares for her athletes and embraces the Burlington Gymnastics Club’s mission statement goal to develop the whole child. She is kind and generous and maintains a wonderful rapport with her gymnasts both in and outside of the gym. She is very creative and during the pandemic hosted virtual sessions for gymnasts on baking cookies, dress-up tips, trivia games, etc. She has been instrumental in creating the Burlington Gymnastics Club’s Mentorship program and is a strong advocate and supporter of the Burlington Gymnastics Annual Spring Club Rhythmic Invitational which sold out in 2019!
Mariya is well respected and admired by her peers within the Burlington Gymnastics Club. It is evident that she is also highly regarded by her extended gymnastics family and is often called upon to provide insight and expertise on various committees at all levels of play.
