Mississauga Gymnasts Excel at Provincial Championships

MISSISSAUGA — Mississauga was well represented at the Gymnastics Ontario Artistic Provincial Championships over the weekend in Windsor with 25 gymnasts making the podium in their respective divisions.

The field was led by Futures Gymnastics members Anthony Tawfik, Justin Karstadt and Yanni Chronopoulos, all of whom are coming off strong performances at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C.

They each walked away with all-around gold, with Tawfik winning the junior high performance division, Karstadt winning the senior high performance division and Chronopoulos starting off a Futures sweep in the national elite level 4 category.

Evgeny Siminiuc and Dorian Doan won silver and bronze, respectively in that class.

There was another Futures sweep in the girls’ CPN elite category, with Lauren Mounsey winning gold, Jenna Sartoretto taking home silver and Jada Niles claiming bronze.

Other all-around gold medalists from Mississauga are Karena Thomas (Futures, age 9, level 5), Santana Douglas (Futures, age 12, level 5), Rachel Genovese (Gymnastics Mississauga, age 13, level 5), Effie Ferguson (Manjak’s, age 12/13, level 7), Vanessa Bryk (Futures, age 10/11, level 8), Jenna Cherepacha (Gymnastics Mississauga, age 12/13, level 8), Jordyn Pedersen (Manjak’s, senior high performance), Rayan Radkov (Futures, national elite level 3), Elel Baker (Gymnastics Mississauga, national novice) and Adam Safaoui (Futures, age 12/13 level 4).

Coming home with silver medals were Lucas Cho (Futures, age 8/9 level 2), Adam Cho (Futures, age 12/13, level 3), Emily Vi (Gymnastics Mississauga, age 11, level 5), Grace Wice (Futures, age 11, level 6), Kelsey Lee (Futures, age 10/11, level 8) and Kelly Johnston (Manjak’s, national novice).
