Ontario sent 8 athletes and 5 coaches to the Pacific Rim Championships in Everett, Washington April 8th-10th, 2016. The event, held at Xfinity Arena, is open to teams from member nations of the Pacific Alliance of National Gymnastics Federations, including Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, USA and other nations on the Pacific coast.
In the Women’s Artistic Category: Kirsten Peterman (Revolution) and Megan Roberts (East York), coached by Aaron Brokenshire and Lisa Cowan aided Team Canada in capturing silver behind the United States.
In Men’s Artistic: Justin Karstadt (Futures) and Anthony Tawfik (Futures), coached by Zhao hui Huang, helped Team Canada clinch bronze! Anthony, the youngest member of the Canadian team, scored an additional two bronze medals in rings and high bar event finals.
In Trampoline, Samantha Sendel (Skyriders) came away with two bronze medals: One as a part of Team Canada and another for her individual performance.
In Rhythmic Gymnastics, Ontario sent Katherine Uchida (Jusco), Sophie Crane (Jusco) and Natalie Garcia (Mississauga Newnorth) along with coaches Stefka Moutafchieva and Tatyana Dolic. The Ontarians aided Canada to a team silver. Uchida also won a bronze in the senior all around and Garcia won silver in rope and ribbon event finals.
