Ontario RG Gymnasts Score Silver in Athens!

325-athen-2016-017_5094Canadian rhythmic gymnasts from Ontario (Salut RG), BC (Okanagan RG, Aura RG), Quebec (Questo RG) and Alberta (Chinook RG), participated in the Aphrodite Cup 2016, an International tournament in Athens, Greece.


It was held in Palaio Faliro Olympic Hall March 11-13, 2016, and hosted 260 FIG gymnasts from 21 countries.


A true team effort brought well-deserved success to the Salut RG FIG Junior group (Gloria Hauer, Alexandra Zilyuk, Jessica Zhang, Jacklyne Elias, Selina Chekhter, Maria Chekhter). Competing amid five strong FIG JR groups, the Ontario RG group came 2nd scoring AA 24.600 in 2 Qualification events. A strong score of 12.650 for  a 5x ball routine upheld 2nd place in the Finals, bringing olive leaf branches and silver medals to Canada from Athens! Way to go girls!


In the individual team event the Junior team Alexandra Chtrevenskii (Questo) and Jaedyn Andreotti (Okanagan RG) came  11th scoring 75.850 [total of 3 best scores for each gymnast].


Canadian Senior RG athletes demonstrated strong performance coming out of 43:

Megan Hamilton (Okanagan RG) with the score 54.950- 16th, Kaylie Choi (Aura RG) with the score 54.150 -17th, Athena Tsaltas & Emma Lozhkin (both Salut RG) with the score 53.300- had a tie 19th, Cindy Huh (Aura RG) with the score 53.200- 21st, Elizabeth Belittchenko with the score 51.050 – 29th, Nina Pavlovic (Chinook RG) with the score 46.900 – 35th.
