IZMIR, Turkey – A costly mistake at the beginning of her first event in the all around final on Friday kept Canada’s Patricia Bezzoubenko well behind the rest of the field in 24th spot at the rhythmic gymnastics world championships.
Bezzoubenko dropped the ribbon in the first minute of her opening routine and though she bounced back with solid performances in the clubs, ball and hoop events, it wasn’t enough to lift the two-time Canadian champion higher in the standings.
Yana Kudryavetsa of Russia won her second straight all around title with a score of 75.266 followed by teammate Margarita Mamun who took the silver with 74.149 and Ganna Rizatdinovo of the Ukraine who earned bronze with 72.449.
Bezzoubenko placed 20th in a field of over 100 gymnasts in the qualifying round to become the first Canadian to reach the all around final since 2007.
