Salut Rhythmic Gymnastics hosted the first Salut Cup International April 29-30, 2016.
The club’s gymnasts, parents, management and coaches proudly welcomed national and international guests to the world class Pan Am Centre in Markham, ON.
Markham Mayor, Frank Scarpitti was on hand to inaugurate the competition: “The first annual Salut Cup International is another important sports competition we are proud to host at the Markham Pan Am Centre. It’s great to be welcoming elite athletes in rhythmic gymnastics from around the world.”
Elite athletes in attendance included:
Victoria Mazur – Ukraine, National Team
Kseniya Moustafaeva – France, National Team
Aliya Protto – United States, National Team
Elizaveta Nazarenkova – Uzbekistan, National Team
Laima Lipkina – Latvia, National Team
Carmel Kallemaa – Estonia, National Team
Patricia Bezzoubenko – 4 time Canadian National Champion
The competition included rhythmic gymnastics performances between Level 3 and Level 10 and secured record attendance.
Top All Around Results
In the Senior H category Viktoria Mazur from the Ukraine took 1st place, Canada’s 4-time National Champion Patricia Bezzoubenko took 2nd, Elizaveta Nazarenkova from Uzbekistan finished 3rd.
In the Senior Level 9 category: Sabina Fedorova from Russia placed 1st, Elizabet Belitchenko (Salut RG) 2nd, Anjelika Reznik (Salut RG) 3rd.
In the Junior Level 10: Eliza Cohen, Kristina Sobolevskaya and Natalie Garcia took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places accordingly.
In the Junior Level 9 category: Ontario gymnasts from Salut RG Selina Chekhter, Alexandra Zilyuk, Jacklyne Elias took gold, silver and bronze accordingly.
In the Novice category: Elizabeth Savchenko (Questo) won 1st place, Sofia Rudneva (Salut RG) took 2nd, and Erika Shcetkova (Russia) placed 3rd.
Sofia Rudneva from Ontario also scored gold in the clubs event.
In the Junior FIG Group category: The Salut RG group secured Gold for the 2 events, 5 balls and 5 ribbons.
Salut RG is hoping to make the Salut Cup International an annual tradition and involve more top athletes from across the world. This year’s competition undoubtedly contributed to the promotion of Rhythmic Gymnastics among Canadian athletes and the general public, and strengthened relations with international gymnastics federations.
