Sydney Townshend of Conestogo, Ont., (Revolution Gymnastics), placed 12th all around at the Youth Olympics on Wednesday as Russia’s Seda Tutkhalyan edged Flavia Lopes Saraiva of Brazil for the gold medal.
Tutkhalyan topped the field of 18 finalists with a score of 54.900 points, 2/10ths of a point ahead of Lopes Saraiva who took the silver with 54.700.
Elissa Downie of Great Britain won the bronze with a score of 54.150.
Townshend scored 49.800 after placing sixth on uneven bars, 11th on vault, 13th on beam and 15th on floor.
Townshend, fourth all around at the 2014 Canadian junior championships, competes again later in the week in the vault and floor finals.
