Risk Management
All clubs are encouraged to be proactive in minimizing risks. This includes having your coaches trained at the appropriate level, having the necessary policies in place, and understanding Gymnastics Ontario’s insurance program. All clubs should also have a communication plan to distribute information from Gymnastics Ontario.
Clubs should follow the Gymnastics Ontario guidelines for the minimum coach certifications for each level. However, clubs are encouraged to seek additional training for coaches. Many e-Learning modules are available in The Locker at little or no cost. There are also many other resources and courses available on our Safe Sport resources page. CFIB also offers free courses for club staff.
All Gymnastics Ontario clubs are CFIB members. CFIB has many valuable resources for clubs including legal and human resources. Clubs are encouraged to learn about all the benefits of a CFIB membership including the available policy templates.
Clubs should spend time getting familiar with the Gymnastics Ontario insurance program including understanding what sanctioned activities are covered. Foreign participants training at clubs should have travel medical insurance without a sport exclusion. When clubs travel out of the country for events, training or competition, it must be sanctioned by the appropriate discipline manager and all participants travelling should have travel medical insurance without a sport exclusion.
